The Faculty Association of Santa Monica College is hosting a Teach-In/Rally on Friday night, March 12, 2004 in the Concert Hall, as a kick-off for the students and faculty heading off  to the March 15 demonstration and Lobby Day for Community Colleges in Sacramento.

    Veteran actor and long-time activist Ed Asner will be guest speaker, with Assemblywoman Jackie Goldberg probable but not yet confirmed. FACCC’s woman in Sacramento, Jennifer Baker, will also speak, and all will be joined on a panel Q&A by student and faculty representatives.

    The evening will begin at 6:00 PM with the Academy Award nominated documentary,  Berkeley In The Sixties, followed by the speakers from 8:00 to roughly 8:45, with Q&A from the audience from 8:45 until 9:30.

    An important goal for the Teach-In is to see what we can learn from the campus activism of the 1960s, and how it can be applied to current Sacramento politics -- and specifically to the “March In March” -- the community college demonstration day in Sacramento on Monday, March 15. Last year SMC sent four busloads of students, teachers, and administrators to Sacramento, and this year we have six and counting.

    The evening is free and open to all. We hope the evening will become a powerful consciousness-raising and motivational experience for our students and the entire Santa Monica community -- and we hope to see you there!
