When was the Faculty Association formed?

The Faculty Association was formed in 1976, after the legislature passed the Educational Employment Relations Act (EERA), which established collective bargaining for the California community colleges. In 1978, the faculty of the college voted to make the Association the exclusive representative of all college faculty in the arena of collective bargaining.

On Thursday September 22, 2005 the Faculty Association Negotiating Team received a package proposal from the District. Below is a comparison of the items in the District's package and Faculty Associations proposals already on the table:

Distance Education

Stipend of $250 per semester for high-speed connection for faculty who teach online course.

(This provision has been in effect since Fall 2002 based on an MOU)

Stipend of $250 on one time basis only, for high-speed connection at the time of faculty member's first teaching of an online course.

Sabbatical leave

Increased funding for sabbatical leaves from eight to twelve.

An additional 4 sabbatical leaves may be funded if approved by the sabbatical committee, Superintendent President and the Board of Trustees.

Part-time retirement

Offer Cash Balance plan as a retirement option to part-time faculty.

Will take necessary steps to initiate Cash Balance Benefit Plan. It shall be within the district's sole discretion as to which options are available within the plan.

Part-time faculty interview for Full-time positions

PT faculty employed for five semesters with satisfactory evaluation, meeting minimum qualification, and completion of all required application procedure shall be forwarded to the interview phase of hiring process.

Intersession load

Change the number of LHE required for 15% contract pay from 6 LHE to 5 LHE.

Not interested.

Part-time faculty office hours

Office hours for English reading classes in addition to the existing office hours in the contract.

No additional office hours.

Faculty Association reassigned time

Additional 0.6 FTE reassigned time for FA.

Not interested.

Academic Senate reassigned time

Additional 0.8 FTE reassigned time for Academic senate.

Not interested. Omit reference to Academic Senate reassigned time in the contract.

Salary

2004-05: COLA (2.41%)

 

2005-06: COLA (4.23%)

$50,000 for professional development, $50,000 for part-time activity fund, Adjustment of salary schedule by eliminating the first step.

 

2006-2007: COLA +1%

$100,000 for professional development.

$100,000 for part-time faculty activity fund.

2004-05: No salary increases.

 

2005-06: A __ % increase for the 2006 Spring semester, off the salary schedule. The percentage amount to be filled after review of possible budget cuts.

 

 

2006-07: 2.5% increase, effective fall 2006.

No money for professional development or part-time activity fund.
