I recently attended the library re-dedication, and I was surprised about one thing. Several years ago (October, 1994), the Board of Trustees passed a resolution by a 6 to 1 vote, to name the library the Richard Moore library. This was to occur after the renovations funded by Prop T were complete, along with the changes required due to the earthquake damage. I guess I expected the naming to occur at the ceremony held October 14th.
However, although both the Prop T influence as well as the FEMA help were both acknowledged in the ceremony, no mention was made of the library's new name. I looked through the incomplete Board records that I had, to see if there had been any rescinding of this Board action, and I couldn't find one.
I found it very strange that the rededication opportunity did not include the new name--The Richard Moore Library--and even stranger that Dr. Moore was not given credit for being a prime mover in the instigation of this library project. The library has always been very much his baby--in its initial beauty and its modernization. He seemed to be actually IN the library himself several times a week.
Has something slipped through the cracks? Or did I miss something? Or is there going to be another ceremony where the library is named?
