       There’s been some loose talk on campus that if the Faculty Association had agreed to an across-the-board pay cut, the programs would have been saved and the full-time faculty lay offs averted.  In fact, there is not one shred of evidence that the administration was willing to find a way to save the programs and the jobs that were eliminated.

      Let me set the record straight.

1. The administration never made such an offer to the FA.

2. Tom Donner stated repeatedly throughout the spring that he was opposed to pay cuts.

3. When the FA brought up the possibility of saving programs and jobs by a quid pro quo on either salary reductions or changing health benefits, the administration turned it down.

4. Even if such a deal had been made, it would have to have been approved by a vote of the membership.

5. FA leaders fully informed the faculty throughout the spring and summer of all of the above.
