During my nightly ritual of reading the contract, I came across appendix D. The first paragraph reads as follow “ Faculty who have full-time or partial assignments which extend over a period of at least 75% of the days that the college is in session during the fall and spring semesters (regular session) shall advance one step on the salary schedule effective the start of the summer session, subject to the limitation of the current salary schedule.”
So I got up and found my summer pay slips and checked the numbers, sure enough my suspicious were correct. My summer pay did not reflect my step advancement. I remember that last summer the first paycheck for full-time faculty was incorrect and it reflected an overpayment, the error was discovered very quickly by the District and was corrected in the next paycheck by deducting the overpayment amount. On the contrary, the error for this summer paycheck was not discovered and has not been corrected. And if my payroll check is in error surely the same is true for other full-time faculty.
So, here we are again. If you are a full-time faculty who taught in the summer session and were paid at the contract rate, you were underpaid and you should get a retroactive check. The only exception is if you are already at the last step on the salary schedule. HELLO!
