Current Poll Question

What is your biggest concern as an SMC faculty member?

Ask the Prez

Who conducts the negotiations for the Faculty Association?

The Negotiating Council, under the leadership of the Chief Negotiator, has the responsibility of conducting negotiations with the District. A three-member Negotiating Team, led by the Chief Negotiator, meets with District negotiators to reach agreement on a new contract, and reports back to the Council for its advice and consent. The Council, in turn, reports to the membership. All new contracts must be ratified by a vote of the Association membership.

Are you curious to read the new contract? Have you forgotten when the next Assembly meeting is? Do you often misplace meeting agendas and minutes? You can find this information and more at the Association website: www.smcfa.org.

This summer, the Faculty Association website underwent several changes. It acquired its own domain name; Bill Lancaster updated our logo so that our letterhead and website images match; and lots of new content has been added, including all 200 pages of the 2000-2001 contract and appendices. Additionally, you will find hot-off-the-press postings of the FAB, the Hourly Advocate, and Representative Assembly meeting dates, agendas, and minutes.

Over the next few months, we'll be bringing several new features online including: a downloadable membership form, the interactive column "Ask the President", photos, an archives, and a political action page highlighting current issues and how SMCFA members can become involved.

The SMCFA website is intended to be a one-stop information resource for SMC faculty and other interested persons. Towards this end, we welcome your input.
