October 1999 - Miller, Gelvin and Vanda Do The Right Thing PDF Print E-mail

Special thanks go to Dot Gelvin, Cheryl Miller, and Jody Vanda in Human Resources and Accounting for throwing aside the bureaucratic chains. When requested to do so by the Faculty Association, these individuals agreed to extend the deadline by which new full-time faculty had to sign up for insurance benefits. An unknown number of new hires missed the deadline by a day or two because of unclear and conflicting statements made during their orientation and in the New Faculty Handbook. Failure to meet the district-imposed deadline would have forced new faculty to wait an additional month before their insurance coverage would have begun. Reacting to a plea for compassion, these three individuals threw aside the red tape and did the right thing.
