April 1999 - Signs Point to... PDF Print E-mail

Faculty Association signs are popping up all over the place?in faculty and student cars, on briefcases, on office doors, and even pinned to people’s clothing. These bright yellow and green signs can help you send a message to the District to settle a fair contract now and to abide by the 50 percent law requiring 50 percent of state funds to be spent in the classroom.

SMC,
Abide by
the
50% law!

A number of signs, some of which are illustrated in this issue of the FAB, will be/have been placed in your mailboxes. Please tape a sign or signs in the rear window of your car so they are readily visible in the parking lots and in the community as you travel around town. Some of the signs are also appropriate for your office doors and your briefcase or bookbag.

Settle for more

Gloria Heller, Chair of the Hourly Committee, can be seen carrying a briefcase sporting this message: "This is my office; I teach at Santa Monica College!" A very strong message is sent to the Board when an entire complex of offices, such as those occupied by the business Department faculty, are displaying messages such as the following: "Settle for more" on one side and, on the other, "I won't settle for less any more!"

SMC,
Student
Success
Equals
Paid Office
Hours!

Students are also showing support for faculty issues by posting messages such as these in their cars: "SMC, abide by the 50% law" and, on the flip side, "Students shouldn't have to settle for less at SMC."

Students
shouldn't
have to
settle for less
at
Santa Monica
College!

You will also receive a number of signs appropriate for distribution to students who indicate a willingness to assist faculty in increasing the visibility of this campus issue in the community.

This
is
my office
I teach at
Santa Monica
College

You may get additional signs in the Faculty Association office, LA 140; or we will send them to at your request ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 310.434.4394).
