Unfortunately, there is very little to report regarding negotiations. As you may remember, PERB assigned us a mediator—the mediator has met with us twice: December 18 and January 21. At the first meeting, we made a $600,000 concession on salary and requested one-half the Partnership for Excellence money ($900,000) for part-time office hours, load fixes and other items to be decided. Not only did the District reject our offer, they worsened their offer on salary and Department chairs. Therefore, we withdrew our offer and we requested certification to fact-finding. The mediator is forcing us to meet at least one more time—at his convenience—in March. We look forward to making our reasoned, supportable case once things go to fact finding. The District has its "listening ears" completely closed to faculty concerns. Any outsider would give us a better deal.
