President Lantz Simpson turned over the gavel to Vice President Kathy Sucher and he was excused to attend another meeting for a few minutes. I. Special Guest Joe Newlin, California Nurses Association – Organizer, St. John’s Hospital.
Joe Newlin presented a short account of the struggle at St. Johns between the Nurses Association and the hospital administrators. The nurses there want an organizing agreement. They are seeking the support of other unions, including the SMCFA.
Motion: Dennis Frisch moved that “The Santa Monica College Faculty Association membership call upon St John’s hospital to enter into a fair organizing agreement with St. John’s RN nurses seeking to organize with CNA.” Seconded by Martin Goldstein. Passed unanimously.
III. ACUPCC Task Force Report – Keith Graziedei
DPAC has approved the creation of the ACUPCC (American College and University Presidents Climate Commission) Task Force. The task force consists of faculty, staff, classified, and students, and will report to DPAC. Meetings are every other Thursday at 2:30 pm in the Academic Senate office. Dr. Tsang signed the ACUPCC agreement on January 31, 2008. The main focus of the commission is for colleges to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions over time with the ultimate goal being to become carbon neutral.
IV. Motion: Jackie Scott moved to appoint Keith Graziedei as FA representative to the DPAC ACUPCC Task Force; seconded by Michael Strathearn. Passed unanimously.
Kathy Sucher returned the gavel to Lantz Simpson.
V. Approval of MOU’s
Peer Evaluation Form MOU will substitute the previous peer evaluation form with the newly written peer evaluation form. It will be implemented beginning the Spring 2009 semester.
Dennis Frisch moved to approve the Peer Evaluation Form MOU, seconded by Fran Chandler. Passed unanimously.
Summary Evaluation Form MOU will substitute the new updated form in place of the old outdated form.
Jackie Scott moved to approve the Summary Evaluation Form MOU, seconded by Fran Chandler. Passed unanimously.
Banking Form: The form provides for faculty to calculate their banking reduction plans.
Dennis Frisch moved to approve the new banking form. Seconded by Espy Bolivar-Owen. Passed unanimously.
Music 92 MOU will exempt Music 92 classes from the Associate Faculty provision calculation.
Michael Strathearn moved to approve the Music 92 MOU, seconded by Dennis Frisch. Passed unanimously.
Copies of all approved MOUs will be attached to the minutes as appendices.
VI. Approval of FA reassigned rime for Winter and Spring 2009
Dennis Frisch moved to approve the reassigned time for Winter and Spring 2009, seconded by Espy Bolivar-Owen. Passed unanimously.

VII. President's Report: The annual SMCFA Holiday Party will be held at the home of Susanne McDonald on Saturday, December 6.
