It was moved by Nick Pernisco to approve the minutes as corrected. Passed unanimously II. President’s Report: Part-time faculty member Bruce Letvin passed away on Saturday, April 3rd; he was 54 years old. The FACCC elections are currently being held until the end of April. SMC ballots ended up in Spam but the postmaster has been notified and the problem should have been rectified. Also, FACCC did not have all the email addresses, but that problem was also addressed. If you still have not received a ballot, email Mitra Moassessi and she will contact FACCC. SAFRA – Student Aid and Reconciliation Act: The Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (H.R. 4872) includes $2 Billion over four years for community colleges and career training. Board of Trustees meeting- April 6: The District is purchasing 1516 Pico Blvd for $1,775,000 and will use measure AA funds to purchase the building. Measure A: The Board also voted to support measure A. The Blue Bus rate is slated to increase; however, the contract between the Blue Bus and SMC will not change until 2011. AB 2297 – would allow a change in how community college’s tuition for non-residents is calculated. AB 2297 is expected to be signed into law by the end of September. Health/PE Facility: The Board voted to approve a $3.5 million contract for the programming, planning, design and construction administration of the Health/Physical Education/Fitness/Dance and Central Plant project. The project will be funded by bond Measure AA. Three faculty are retiring- John Bowles, Linda Webster, Michael Schapa. III. Open Nominations for Spring 2010 Elections – Richard Lavallee Faculty will be voting for Secretary and Department Representatives. Nomination forms are now available in faculty mailboxes. Nomination ballots are due back: April 29th. Election ballots go out May 10, and are due back by May 24th. Richard Lavallee called for nominations from the floor. Martin Goldstein nominated Becky Curtis for Secretary. IV. Negotiations Report – Howard Stahl At the Tuesday Board meeting, the District presented its sunshine letter. The next step in the process is that the District will hold an open meeting at the next Board meeting allowing for public comments. Negotiations can start after the May board meeting.
