Current Poll Question

What is your biggest concern as an SMC faculty member?

Ask the Prez

What is the "contract"?

The contract spells out the salaries, working conditions, and grievance rights for faculty at SMC. The current collective bargaining agreement (also known as the "contract") is in effect from August 21, 2007, to August 23, 2010. A complete copy of the agreement is posted on this website. Paper copies are available upon request to any faculty who wants one.

I. President's Report-Lantz Simpson

A. Lantz explained that the Faculty Association does not have a role to play in the current discussion concerning the reorganization of college departments. If changes affect the contract agreements, at that point the Faculty Association would be involved in negotiations.

B. Faculty Lobby Day in Sacramento is March 18, 2002.

C. The podium was ceded to Andrew Walzer who advocated for including at every meeting a report on issues especially relevant to adjunct instructors. He reported that the current most "burning Issues" are pro rata pay, job security (which is partially dependent on department chairs' completing evaluations in a timely manner), and provision of spaces where instructors can receive mail and meet with students.

D. Budget Committee-The district administration are concerned about the cuts in the state budget, and the Faculty Association position is that we don't know enough until the "May revise" to

decisions concerning any necessary cuts in the SMC budget.

E. Contract-Some corrections need to be made before the contract can be signed.

F. Retroactive paychecks for faculty will arrive on April 1.

II. Motion from the Executive Committee-First Reading
