I. President’s Report-Lantz Simpson

 

A. There were two articles in the L.A. Times on Wednesday April 3 in the Editorial section “Be Fair to Two-Year Colleges”. And in the California section “Community College Budget Cuts Offer Davis a Refresher Course in Reality” by George Skelton.

 

B. The March 28th rally at Pershing Square was very successful.  Approximately 4,000 faculty, staff, students and prominent politicians were in attendance.   

 

C.  L.A.C.C. district- a good friend of the FA, Mona Field from Glendale College is involved in a run-off election for the Board.  The FA supports her and hopes you will vote for her. 

 

D.  FA Bulletin comes out tomorrow April 4, read it!

 

E.  Linda Janakos film, “Teachers on Wheels” about part-time faculty will premiere on Sunday April 6 at 3:30 p.m. at Workmen’s Circle.

 

F.  The Budget Committee has met four times regarding retirement incentives.  Will meet today at 4p.m. with Tom Donner.  Foot dragging, by the administrators, has been communicated to the board regarding retirement.

 

G.  MOU regarding associate faculty was presented by Robert Flores.  Chairs needed flexibility for associates.  Part-time counselors have the same MOU.  Ultimate decision is now with the district not with Chairs.

 

Motion from the Representative Assembly – Memorandum of Understanding

Ben Martin moved Charlie Donaldson seconed, with corrections as noted.

 

Motion passed unanimously.  

 

 

II. Approval of minutes, March 20, 2003

 

The minutes were approved unanimously with corrections to the attendance list and I. (Presidents Report) A. (change 10,00 to 10,000).

 

III. Motion from the Executive Committee – To endorse 3 people for the FACCC Board of Governors.  Ken Mason – Vice President,

Dennis Frisch – Board of Governors, and Kym McBride Part-time Board of Governors.

 

The motion passed unanimously.

 

IV.  Motion from the Executive Committee –

 

Bylaws Revision- First Reading

                   Article III

                   Section D: Limits on Expenditures

 

     Recommending deleting Section D:  Limits on Expenditures

 

Motion passed, one abstention.

         

V.  Motion from the Executive Committee – Amended Faculty Association Budget

 

Accounts adopted and/or revised:

          Lost 180 p/t faculty

          Legal – 10 programs cut, right to legal representation

 

Ben Martin moved and Dennis Frisch seconded.  Motion passed unanimously.
