I. President’s Report-Lantz Simpson A. The education coalition between the SMC Faculty Association and the Santa Monica K-12 teachers has agreed to endorse and support their respective board candidates for the November, 2004 elections. Candidate interviews are tentatively scheduled for May 25. All faculty members are invited to attend. B. The May revise state budget for California community colleges allows $80 million for equalization of which Santa Monica College should receive $8,000,000 for the 2004-05 school year. C. Dr. Robertson has chosen to hire only three new full time faculty members for 04-05, so SMC will be required to pay penalties equal to hiring more faculty, unless the chancellor’s office grants a waiver. II. Elections Committee-Dennis Frisch Elections will take place through 12 noon Wednesday, June 2, the votes will be counted immediately, and results will be available late Wednesday. III. Negotiations-Mitra Moassessi Dennis Frisch, Kym McBride, and Mitra Moassessi have been elected to the negotiating team by the Negotiating Council. The critical areas to be negotiated are as follows: Article 10-Health Benefits Article 8-Salary Faculty Association release time Office hours, overload, and associate status Distance education Banked hours pay at separation IV. CCCI Report-Ken Mason A. New CCCI by-laws were approved at the May 7-8 meeting. B. CCCI members voted to oppose appointment of Margaret Quinones to the Board of Governors. C. New officers elected: President, Zoe Close; Executive secretary and chair of standing committee for publications, Dennis Frisch; John Smith, Treasurer, Rancho Santiago. V. Special Guest-FACCC Vice President Bill Hewitt discussed strategies for faculty to have a voice in Board of Trustee elections The meeting adjourned at 12:35 P.M.
