Services for Bradford Smith will be held Saturday, June 4, 1 pm at St. Bedes, 3590 Grandview Blvd , Los Angeles , CA 90066 . The Faculty Association will donate $100 to the Harvey Kirk Biology/Ecology Scholarship, SMC Foundation. Passed Unanimously -Foothill-DeAnza has agreed to enter into an institutional relationship (like ours) with FACCC. - There will be another person added to the Presidential Search Committee to serve as a facilitator; this is yet another change from what Presidential Search Consultant, Dr. Sykes, recommended. -Ken Mason reported on the Alliance for a Better California meeting (the main sponsors of the recent Pershing Square rally). Ken is chairing a sub-committee of the Alliance which is charged with organizing the demonstration at this year's commencement ceremony, June 14. A group of concerned students, faculty, staff and citizens requested that the Board of Trustees agendize the issue of the Governor's appearance, but the Administration said no. Interested persons are invited to address the Board on Monday, June 6 during public comments. Students are being issued 10 tickets each for the commencement ceremonies (600 are graduating). If there are additional tickets, faculty can inquire of Teresita Rodriguez. II. Approval of the Minutes of the May 5th Assembly Meeting M/S: McBride/Zehr. Passed unanimously. III. Passed Unanimously. IV. Negotiations Update – Mitra Moassessi Depending on what happens on June 7 (the next meeting), the FA will know whether we will be negotiating this summer. So far, faculty has been offered 0% and there has been no progress on any front. Lantz reported that consultant Sykes recommends that V. Benefits Committee Report – Mitra Moassessi The SMC consultant, Anne Clifford from Fickewirth and Associates, is comparing PERScare with LACCD and LARISA benefits. LACCD just changed carriers from Blue Cross to Blue Shield, which has lower rates. SMC's consultant will present her findings on June 8 to the Health Benefits Committee. Then the committee will meet to consider the recommendations. If it were decided to join LACCD, there would be many details to work out, which would take time. The results of the Benefits Survey will be published soon. The committee continues to meet every week. VI.
