Excused : Alan Buckley, Toni Randall, Kathy Sucher, Guests : Julia Bromley Presidents Report – Lantz Simpson Lantz reported that the CCCI conference would be held at the end of April in Berkeley at the Claremont Hotel. The FA will pay for expenses for anyone wishing to attend. Dennis Frisch reported that the Community College Initiative would be postponed until the June 2008 election. This would allow time to gather signatures. FACCC elections are underway, and Dennis Frisch is running for BOG at large. Lantz recommended that the FA remain neutral regarding the FACCC presidential race, but urged members to campaign for their candidate. Lantz urged members to vote. Approval of Minutes – postponed until after Spring Break. Guest Speaker —Julia Brownley candidate for State Assembly in the 41 st district. Ms. Brownley spoke of her strong support for education and faculty, and has the support of FACCC, CFT, AFT and others. She has served on the School Board in Santa Monica for eleven years. She received a strong positive response from the membership. III. Elections committee report –Kym McBride Elections committee chair Kym McBride, called for nominations from the floor for Secretary for the FA. Rebecca Curtis nominated Kathy Sucher. Martin Goldstein seconded the nomination. It passed unanimously. IV. Negotiating Report – Mitra Moassessi Mitra reported that after two meetings with the District there is still no movement on salary, sabbaticals, or reassigned time for the Academic Senate. Mitra reported that there is a consensus to move forward with job actions after Spring Break if there is no settlement at the meeting this week. She asked for a commitment from members to speak at the Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, April 10, and there was a show of hands to volunteer. V. Benefits Committee Report – Sandra Burnett Sandi reported that they have been pushing for an RFP for a year now. They are awaiting proposals for alternative plans to PERS. They have had one partial bid from Blue Cross and are waiting for other proposals from AETNA, Health Net, and Pacific Care. All information will be available on the web site as it becomes available. A meeting is scheduled for 4/20 with the consultant. There will be a leadership forum with the Benefits Committee the first week in May with Lantz and Bernie Rosenloecher, CSEA president, attending.
