President's Report – Lantz Simpson Lobby Day is March 5 in Sacramento . The Faculty Association will pay expenses including the luncheon for anyone who attends. It is an opportunity for us to meet with legislators and explain some of our issues directly. March 3 is the state AAUP meeting in Valencia . The Faculty Association will reimburse attendees for the registration fee. February 27 in Sacramento is a meeting regarding statewide universal health coverage; more details are available from Sandi Burnett. The March 29 Assembly meeting will be devoted to exploring the 4 state-level health care proposals and consider them in the context of our current health care coverage under PERSCare. Elected FA leaders have been meeting monthly with Dr. Tsang establishing rapport and speaking frankly about our issues. The FA has withdrawn its Unfair Labor Practice complaint without prejudice due to the fact that when the ISIS system crashed the first week of spring, no dynamic enrollment took place. Since no retaliation took place, we had no basis for our complaint. It is not yet clear exactly how next semester's dynamic enrollment will proceed. There is gridlock on the campus during the first and second weeks of school. Although the number of faculty continues to increase, there is a fixed number of faculty slots. Lantz reminded faculty that we may park in all slots, not only faculty slots. The positions of Human Resources and Chief Business Officer have been vacant. Interviewing for the Human Resources position will begin next month. VII. Negotiations Report – Mitra Moassessi We submitted our Sunshine Letter to the Board last month. The Board now needs to issue their Sunshine Letter. The Negotiating Council will be sending out the survey next week. It will be online, with an option of a paper survey. Howard Stahl outlined how the online survey will work. VII. Benefits Committee – Sandi Burnett From 11am to 5 pm at the March 8 flex day, there will be a Health Benefits Fair. All vendors will be there: PERSCare, Kaiser, etc. Sandi reported on the response to the Health Benefits Audit: 60% of full-time benefits users have submitted the necessary survey/paperwork in order for their benefits to continue. The Committee will not be issuing a new RFP for new health plans in view of the fact that there are a number of state and federal proposals on the table that may change the health care landscape for us. IX. For the Good of the Order Michael Strathearn announced that the Disaster Prep Committee expects there to be a disaster drill at some point during the last two weeks of April. Kathy Sucher passed out postcards with the L.A. Faculty Guild endorsements for the LA Community College Board of Trustees election in March. Respectfully Submitted, Kathy Sucher Recording Secretary
