Guests : none President's Report: - Faculty Association Elections : Representatives are asked to remind their colleagues to submit nominations for the upcoming Faculty Association elections.
- The CCCI Initiative has qualified for the February 5, 2008 election. The FA and the District should contribute to the effort to pass the initiative; if passed, it could mean $5 – 7 million more per year for SMC. More information is on the FACCC website at: http://www.faccc.org/CCI.htm
- GASB Update : Neither Dr. Tsang nor the Board is prepared to take money out of the General Fund for GASB fund at this time. The FA will continue to watch this issue.
- CPFA's annual meeting is this weekend in Oroville , CA . There are several bills in the legislature regarding part-time employment: one is a CPFA-sponsored bill and the other is a CFT-sponsored bill.
- SMC College Budget – The Budget Committee and the Academic Senate sent forward a number of resolutions to Dr. Tsang regarding the budget and the budgeting process. Based on these, Dr. Tsang then presented his own set of principles at the special Board of Trustees budget meeting on April 30. With some minor modifications, the Board adopted Dr. Tsang's principles. The set of principles will be available on the SMCFA website.
Approval of the Minutes from April 19, 2007 M/S: Kennedy/Burnett. Passed unanimously. Appointment of Negotiating Council Member Jackie Scott M/S: Chandler/Stahl. Passed unanimously. Negotiations Report – Mitra Moassessi Our Negotiating Council continues to meet weekly. The Board has not yet sunshined, so negotiations have not begun. Mitra solicited input for cost-savings strategies; an email will be distributed. Mitra will take these suggestions to the Budget Committee. Second Reading – Resolution from the Executive Committee The Executive Committee recommends modifying the Faculty Association bylaws to include a new committee: The Distance Education Committee. Additionally, the Public Affairs Committee is being renamed, and a Governmental Relations Committee is being formed. Language will be presented at the Assembly meeting. Passed unanimously. CCCI Report – Dennis Frisch and Kathy Sucher The California Community College Independents met for their spring conference last weekend. The program focused on retirement and benefits, the statewide trends towards decertification, and negotiations and contracts in the independent districts around the state. Additionally, CCCI took positions on current retirement legislation. Other current legislation focuses on part-time issues and student textbooks issues. For the Good of the Order M/S: (Frisch/Burnett ) The Representative Assembly endorses incumbent Georgia Mercier in the runoff in the L.A.C.C. Board of Trustees election. Passed unanimously.
