What is agency shop and why is there one at Santa Monica College?

Under the EERA, the Association has the Duty of Fair Representation of all faculty at the college. In 1994, the faculty voted to create an agency shop, which means that all faculty represented by the Association must pay a fair share to support the Association.

V. Motion from Executive Committee:

Because of the District's refusal to sign the tolling agreement the Executive committee fully supports and recommends that the Representative Assembly reaffirm the decision to refile the 50% lawsuit with the Chancellor's office and Board of Governors added to the lawsuit as codefendants.
