1. Approval of Minutes of September 7, 2000 Meeting
The meeting was called to order at 11:20 A.M. Peggy Kline moved the approval of the September 7, 2000 minutes. Lynette Shishido seconded the motion, which was unanimously approved. 2. President’s Report — Lantz Simpson
President Simpson reported that the college Budget Committee is being reconstituted to include six faculty members, three from the Faculty Association and three from the Academic Senate.
The FACCC conference is in progress September 21, 22 and 23 on the Queen Mary in Long Beach. All faculty are invited to attend.
The President requested that people please RSVP to the Faculty Association office for the Faculty Retreat on September 29.
The President called on Carol Beckstead, Co-chair of the Benefits committee to request letters from faculty and friends urging Governor David to sign state bills AB1733 and AB2456.
3. Chief Negotiator’s Report — Robert Flores
Mr. Flores requested that the faculty begin to focus attention on negotiation issues now so that we can be prepared in Spring 2001. One seat is still open on the Negotiation Council. The Council is beginning work on the sunshine letter and requests input from members of the faculty. A committee on load has been established. 4. Political Action Report — Ken Mason 1. Mr. Mason encourages attendance on September 29 at the Faculty Retreat in Franklin Canyon. 2. Interview of candidates for the Board of Trustees will be held on October 4 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. in Business 111. Margaret Carroll, Robert Klepa, Pat McGuire and Margaret Quinones. 3. Mr. Mason urged attendance at the fundraiser to be held for the Faculty Association Political Action Committee on October 7, 2000 from 2-5 p.m. This will be a festive event for the good of the Association. 4. Mr. Mason announced that the payroll deduction forms for the Faculty Association Political Action Committee fund are ready and will be mailed out to faculty.
V. Motion from the Executive Committee
Because of the District’s refusal to sign the tolling agreement the Executive Committee fully supports and recommends that the Representative Assembly reaffirm the decision to refile the 50% Lawsuit with the Chancellor’s office and the Board of Governors added to lawsuit as codefendants.
Bill Price called the question. The motion passed with two nays.
