1. President’s Report — Lantz Simpson
A. The 50% exemption request is being withdrawn because according to the District they are in compliance for 1999-2000. The hearing on December 11 is cancelled.
B. The District has hired Larry Frierson as their negotiator for the next contract negotiations. He has worked for both the Contra Costa and the Pasadena districts as negotiator. Both of those districts reached impasse in bargaining.
C. The budget committee meeting that the District stated would take place in November was never scheduled despite several requests by the Faculty Association. Dr. Robertson suggested a spring meeting will take place.
D. A PERB meeting will be held on January 9, 2001 to address the issue of the DistrictÕs threats to take away reassigned time.
E. Gloria Heller moved and Ben Martin seconded a motion to: "Commend the Academic Senate and the eight coordinators of special programs who provided thoughtful advocacy for the integrity of their programs at the December Board of Trustees meeting." The motion was passed unanimously.
II. Bylaws Changes: Second Reading - Recommendation from PAC membership
A. Article III, section A, #5 of Faculty Association Bylaws should be amended to say: "recommends endorsement of political candidates and/or ballot propositions."
B. Article VII section E, #4 of Faculty Association Bylaws to read: "Legislation and Public Affairs committee."
C. Article VII, section E, #4 of Faculty Association Bylaws to read: "Legislation and Public Affairs committee." Fran Chandler moved and Ben Martin seconded a motion to move the vote on Bylaws changes to the February 22, 2001, meeting of the Representative Assembly.
3. For the Good of the Order
A. Carol Beckstead announced that information packets regarding retirement are on the front table. B. Richard Johncola urged members to join the SMCFA-PAC C. Gloria Heller announced a Conference on contingent labor will be held in January 2001 in San Jose. For information check CPFA.ORG
