The meeting was called to order at 11:15 A.M.
I. President's Report-Lantz Simpson
A. Andrew Walzer announced the FA PAC fundraiser, which will be held on Saturday November 8 from 11A.M.-2 P.M. at the home of Nina Theiss. Brunch will be served and the charge is $50 per person. Donations to the PAC will be used to support candidates in the November 2004 Board of Trustees election.
B. The officers of the Faculty Association are proceeding with the interviews to hire a Public Relations person for the Association.
C. The Job Action Task Force that was approved by the Assembly and co-chaired by Richard Tahvildaran-Jesswein and Kenneth Mason will meet today off-campus at 5:00 P.M.
II. Approval of minutes of May 8, 2003.
The minutes were approved, amended as follows " Minutes were submitted by Kym McBride substituting for Ann Maddox who was excused from the May 8 meeting.'
III. Maria Alvarado was nominated by the President, to fill an empty seat as representative to FA Assembly from Counseling. Per Bylaws, she received the next most number of votes in the previous election. Fran Chandler so moved and David Zehr seconded. The motion was approved unanimously.
IV. Job Action Task Force
Lantz reported that the Job Action Task Force is being revived in preparation for Faculty Association bargaining, which will be occurring in the next six months (the current contract ends as of August 31, 2004). Lantz discussed the bargaining procedure and timelines for the next contract period.
V. For the good of the order
A. Robyn Briggs reported that 30 people attended the California Part Time Faculty Association (CPFA) meeting at West Los Angeles College. Robyn and others urge both part time and full time faculty to join CPFA.
B. Lesley Kawaguchi reported that at the October 13 meeting the Board of Trustees will publicly interview applicants for the open Board seat.
