What is the "contract"?

The contract spells out the salaries, working conditions, and grievance rights for faculty at SMC. The current collective bargaining agreement (also known as the "contract") is in effect from August 21, 2007, to August 23, 2010. A complete copy of the agreement is posted on this website. Paper copies are available upon request to any faculty who wants one.

The meeting was called to order at 11:15 A.M.

 

I. President's Report-Lantz Simpson

 

A.  Andrew Walzer urged all faculty to RSVP and contribute to the PAC fundraiser that will be held on November 8.  He also called attention to Campus Equity Week activities taking place during the week of October 27-31.

 

B. Angelica Garcia from the Students Against Lay-offs-Progressive Student Alliance announced the student walkout from classes scheduled for 12 noon to 2:00P.M. on Monday November 3.  She requested that faculty members make allowances for student s who choose to walk out, and voiced student support for faculty and staff.

 

C. The FACCC conference will be held November 14 and 15 in San Francisco.  All faculties interested in attending should contact the Faculty Association office for assistance with expenses.

 

D. Lantz announced that some FA officers will be attending the CCCI meeting on Nov. 8 in San Diego. 

 

 

 

II.  Executive Committee Motion

 

A subcommittee of the Representative Assembly shall be established to plan activities to support the striking grocery store workers.

 

Motion passed unanimously with one abstention. Ben Martin, Suzanne McDonald, and Melissa Michelson agreed to form the committee.

 

III.  Negotiations Report-Robert Flores

 

The following issues are being addressed at the present time since they have not been addressed in a timely fashion:

     A. annuity plan as part of retirement incentive for retirees in June 2003 has not been established,

     B.  equity money for part time faculty has not been divided to account for extra money received and not used because of cuts in part time faculty,

     C.  banked hours compensation for laid off faculty,

     D.  STRS credit reporting by the district for part time faculty needs to be brought up to date with county procedure.

 

IV.  Job Action Task Force-Richard Tahvildaran-Jesswein

 

     A. Faculty is requested to turn out for the November 3 Board of Trustees meeting.

     B.  A committee of faculty, staff, and students invited the applicants for the empty Board seat to meet with them.  Mr. Pope declined to meet, saying he would prefer to wait for the decision of the Board and the President.  Mr. Finkel had a scheduling problem and was videoed for the

Board in lieu of an interview.  The committee met with Rob Rader, Pam Brady, and Bill Winslow and endorsed all but Mr. Pope.  Interview results are reported in the October 29 Corsair.

     C.  Petitions are being circulated to present at the November 3 Board meeting.

     D.  Job Action Task Force meetings are at 5:00 P.M. on Thursdays.
