Current Poll Question

What is your biggest concern as an SMC faculty member?

Ask the Prez

Do part-time faculty have medical benefits?

After working three of the last six semesters at five hours per week or more, part-time faculty may choose from one of the following: single party Kaiser medical, a dental plan, or a vision plan. The District pays the full cost of the plans.

I.                   Approval of Minutes   Sept 23 and  October 7.

Two corrections were made. On Sept 23rd there was one correction offered but  ultimately rejected: that Richard Lavallee should be listed as a member of the assembly, but in fact he is NOT a member.

On October 7th, the word "oversestimated" in the Negotiations Report, should be replaced with "underestimated".  Also, it is the "unrestricted reserves that are used to get off of the Watch List".  These corrections were offered by Mitra and approved.

Ruth Logan moved; Peter Geltner seconded. Approved unanimously.

II.        New Business

Motion:  Richard McColl be appointed to the Representative Assembly to fill a vacancy in the Art Dept.  Approved unanimously.

- Full-page ad in today’s Santa Monica Mirror indicating endorsements of current trustee Annette Shamey; former trustee Pat Nichelson; and former mayor/judge David Finkle.

-Lantz read highlights from Margaret Quinones’ most recent campaign mailer.

IV.              Negotiations Update – Mitra Moassessi

The focus of a lot of the negotiations so far has been towards setting up a health benefits committee, but as of now, there is no committee.

The District refused to have table agreement on Article 8 (Benefits) while a Benefits Committee would do its work.  The Faculty Association can not agree to leaving Article 8 open with the possibility of take back demands influencing the work of the committee.
