President's Report – Lantz Simpson Lantz announced that Dennis Frisch is in Sacramento participating in the consultation process with the Chancellor's Office regarding community college policies and budget for recommendation to the Board of Governors; Dennis is the CCCI representative. Lantz reported that there was excellent faculty turnout at the last Board meeting and thanked all who attended. Lantz updated members on the status of the Presidential search. 37 applicants, 10 will be interviewed, 3-5 will be chosen, finalists will be on campus 11/14-18 for the public forum at which campus constituents will ask their questions, but which questions will be asked, who will ask them, and whether or not they will be made public beforehand have yet to be decided. II. Recommendation of Ad Hoc Committee on Katrina Donation – Lantz Simpson Lantz reported that the Hurricane Katrina Relief donation of $10,000 would be given to Habitat for Humanity, http://www.habitat.org// , based on the ad hoc committee's recommendation. The motion passed unanimously. III. Information Item – Discussion on Proposition 75 – Special Guest Andrew Walzer Lantz, in Andrew Walzer's absence, explained that Proposition 75, prohibiting unions from using dues to contribute to PACs without each individual members consent, appears to be the first step along a longer road towards dismantling pension plans and deconstructing unions. IV. Appointments to DPAC Committees – College Services and Facilities – Lantz Simpson Lantz reported that representatives are needed for two DPAC committees: College Services and Facilities. On Facilities, Ken Mason serves and Lantz has replaced himself with Rick Lavallee. This was approved unanimously. He is still searching for someone to sit on College Services, chaired by Bobby Adams - no meetings have yet been scheduled. He mentioned that Tom Donner has stopped coming to DPAC meetings so that Senate President Richard Tahvildaran has chaired a few of them and Randy attended and chaired the last one. The Technology Committee recommendations on college website redesign and college doables such as cleaning up campus, and perhaps moving the Superintendent/President back to campus have been discussed, but Acting President Donner has not acted on any of the recommendations as yet. V. Negotiating Report – Mitra Moassessi Mitra Moassessi presented a negotiations update: there will be a special (closed) meeting of the Board on October 24th to discuss collective bargaining. There will be a meeting of the negotiating team and the District on October 25. VI. Benefits Committee Report -- Sandi Burnett Sandi Burnett, Chair of the Benefits Cmmt, reported that there will be a third Health Benefits Forum for all employees held on November 2 at 3:00 p.m. in B111. They will discuss the section 125 plan, 403 plans, and life insurance for FT employees. They welcome ideas on how to reduce the costs of medical benefits. VII. Membership Committee Report – Maria Alvarado Maria Alvarado, Chair of Membership Committee, in Ken Mason's absence, reported that the annual fundraiser for PAC will be held at Suzanne McDonald's house (in Santa Monica ) on December 10th. There will be speakers, the Board is invited, and the Academic Senate is invited. Further, she passed around a FA members participation sheet for representatives to volunteer for various committee duties. In answer to a question about committee meeting dates, Lantz explained that committees meet as needed so that dates are flexible. VIII. For the Good of the Order Martin Goldstein announced that the 60% resolution had unanimously passed the Senate.
