•  President's Report – Lantz Simpson

- Presidential Search --Lantz reported that the three finalists Deborah Blue, Chui Tseng, and Jerry Ryan are the best of the pool and that the search committee conducted itself professionally. There were a number of questions from the floor about the next stage in the process and possible roles for individual faculty members to talk to Board members and/or make contact with people who might have some professional experience with any of the three candidates. Lantz encouraged faculty to Google all candidates and their institutions.

- Job Action Task Force Meeting – Today at 5 pm in LA 205. All faculty should attend.

- Campus Equity Week -- There are two Campus Equity forums this week.

•  Negotiating Report – Mitra Moassessi

Mitra reported that the Negotiating Committee presented our counter-proposal today to the District. Our counter-proposal included an “unpackaged package” and our salary proposal. Consultant/Facilitator Ken Cloak told our team that the Board is not flexible on salary for 04-05. Faculty are encouraged to attend the Board meeting on Monday.

•  Benefits Committee Report – Sandi Burnett

Sandi reported on the July recommendation of an incentive for faculty to move from PERSCare to PERSChoice. The committee's consultant determined that the administration should hire an additional person to work with Mimi Vaval. He also pointed out the fact that CalPERS administers the program currently (which saves the District the cost of administration), so additional administrative costs would need to be factored in if the District were to move away from PERS in the future.

•  CCCI Report – Dennis Frisch

- 60% Law -- There was a vigorous discussion of the CPFA proposal to change the “60% Law” to the “80% Law” but no resolution.

- Community College Initiative -- CCCI also received a report on the Community College Initiative which would create a greater degree of independent governance of the Community Colleges at the state level--similar to what the UC has—while maintaining local control. It also would create a new funding mechanism based exclusively on growth of Community Colleges. (K-12 is currently not growing but CCs are, so this would be advantageous.) In order to get this initiative on the ballot, it will cost $2 million. If every full-time faculty member gave $100 and every part-time faculty member gave $50, adequate funds could be raised. Boards of Trustees, college CEOs/presidents should also be interested in seeing the initiative passed.

•  FACCC Report – Lantz Simpson

Several faculty members attended the conference in San Francisco .

•  Membership Committee Report – Maria Alvarado & Ken Mason

Fundraiser will be Saturday December 10 th , 2005 at the home of Suzanne McDonald.

Ken presented the latest polling numbers on the Nov. 8 th propositions.

Maria suggested looking at page 8 of the most recent FACCC newsletter for faculty who would like to become more active.

•  For the Good of the Order

Respectfully submitted,

Kathy Sucher
