Current Poll Question

What is your biggest concern as an SMC faculty member?

Ask the Prez

What is the "contract"?

The contract spells out the salaries, working conditions, and grievance rights for faculty at SMC. The current collective bargaining agreement (also known as the "contract") is in effect from August 21, 2007, to August 23, 2010. A complete copy of the agreement is posted on this website. Paper copies are available upon request to any faculty who wants one.

III. Negotiations Report – Mitra Moassessi
All Faculty--Your last paycheck reflects your 3.5% raise.
You can find a link on the SMCFA website with the new salary schedule.
http://www.smcfa.org/Paycheck_project/A1_salary_schedule_35.htm
FT Faculty: The Faculty Association is close to an agreement with the adjustment in the salary schedule.  We don’t know when the retro check for the 3.5% increase since Fall 07 will be available.
http://www.smcfa.org/negotiations/negotiations_07/raises_retros.htm
PT – As of Spring 2008 Part-time pro rata pay increases to 74%. The way office hours are calculated has changed. Part-Timers who get paid for office hours are paid for one hour weekly. To calculate: take the amount in the cell on Salary Schedule A-1 corresponding to the current placement of the part-time faculty member on salary schedule B-2 divided by 2 and multiply by 2.5%.
The pay per unit for PT factory on load factor one was mistakenly calculated at 70% instead of 74% for the latest paycheck. This problem will be corrected in the retro check. The retro will reflect the 74%.

PT faculty can now purchase additional health benefits. If a PT faculty member is enrolled in Kaiser, they can buy dependent care. If a member wants to take advantage of that provision, they need to submit a form by April 18. Enrollment forms are available on-line.

IV.  Elections Committee Report: Kym Mc Bride
A Special Election will begin April 17th and run until May 1. The ballots will be due before noon May 1. There will be an informational meeting 4/17 at 11:15 place TBA. The ballot will contain two measures, the first regarding a dues reduction and the second regarding making annual contributions to the FA Political Action Committee.  A special edition of the Faculty Association Bulletin will be issued after spring break with complete details.  The special election ballot was read to the Assembly without objection. (See Appendix to minutes)

V. Endorsement of Candidate in State Senate Election -- Fran Pavley. A motion from the executive committee was made to endorse Fran Pavley for the State Senate. Passed with one abstention.
