Article 16 - Faculty Service Areas |

16.1 A joint District Administration and Faculty Association Faculty Service Areas Committee composed of three members from each group shall consult and attempt to agree upon faculty service areas, for which probationary faculty members qualify at the time of initial employment, and District competency standards. The committee shall also consult and attempt to agree upon processes by which current probationary and tenured faculty members will be placed in appropriate faculty service areas and by which regular and contract faculty members may apply to be placed in additional faculty service areas, when the faculty members have met both minimum qualifications and district competency standards. 16.2 The joint Faculty Service Areas Committee shall be consulted whenever changes in faculty service areas, District competency criteria, or the qualification process are to be considered. The parties agreed to the SMC Faculty Service Areas Process developed by the above joint committee which is hereby incorporated into this agreement as Appendix I. 16.3 If agreement is not reached two (2) weeks prior to the reasonable committee established deadline date for agreement, the District may submit a written plan to the joint committee. The District shall make a reasonable attempt to include in such a plan those items which have been agreed upon by the committee. The committee shall have the opportunity to review and comment upon the plan. The District may then implement this plan.
