| From: DOSSETT_GORDON Sent: Fri 5/16/2003 10:54 AM To: FACULTY_ALL Subject: Special Academic Senate meeting To all faculty-- Yesterday the Board of Trustees voted 5-1 to close the Transportation Technology, Architecture and Public Safety programs and lay off eight full-time faculty members. Although not technically an action taken yesterday, the administration proposes merging Office Information Systems with Computer Information Systems and eliminating the Recreation and Tourism/Hospitality programs. Respiratory Therapy would continue for two years, the length of the current contract the college has with East Los Angeles College, the program's co-sponsor. The Interior Architectural Design and Fashion and Merchandising programs would continue with reduced course offerings. In anticipation of the board's action, the Academic Senate last Tuesday scheduled a special meeting to take place at 11:15 on Tuesday, May 20 in B144. The purpose of the meeting is to consider what course of action would be an appropriate response, up to and including putting before the full faculty a vote of no confidence in the superintendent/president and/or the board of trustees. Please let your senators know your opinion on this important matter. All faculty are welcome to attend the meeting. Gordon Dossett Academic Senate President |
