Campus Equity week 2005

 Attention all adjunct faculty

Come one come all. Next week the Faculty Association is hosting a teach-in for Campus Equity Week. Campus Equity week is a coalition among faculty organizers and organizations throughout higher education to focus attention on the exploitation of contingent employment practices here at Santa Monica College, at Community Colleges all around the state, and in higher education across the nation. Faculty wishes to focus its attention on student success ratios; however problems arise when adjunct faculty are left without the resources and tools to assist students in their necessary development. Here at Santa Monica College we will hold two teach-ins to inform and educate faculty on the problems we face, and the possible solutions to these problems.

These are crucial times for adjuncts—please come and network, lend support, and meet other faculty.

Teach-ins will be held at two different times to accommodate faculty:

Wed. evening Nov. 2 at 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. Meeting will be held in Business 111. Pizza and drinks will be served

Thursday Nov. 3 at 3 pm to 4:30 pm. Meeting will be held in Business 111. Coffee and sandwiches and deserts will be served.

Speakers include:

  • Marcus Harvey from the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) speaking on “Rational Exploitation” ;

  • Lantz Simpson SMCFA President speaking on the 60% Law and the recent resolution adopted in the Faculty Association and the Academic Senate to change the 60% law.

  • Mitra Moassessi,  FA Chief Negotiator, will speak on the administration's obligation to hire full time faculty.

For more information contact: Curtis_rebecca@smc.edu   or Nelson_Launa@smc.edu (FA part-time co-chairs).

No need to RSVP, however please try to email if you plan to attend.

Also: A FACCC adjunct retirement workshop will be held in the near future.
